Working on Cable Car for London project
CCD has been appointed as part of the consortium which is to build the new cable car system connecting the Greenwich Peninsula and the O2 with the Royal Victoria Docks and the ExCeL. The London cable car is planned to be designed and built before next year's Olympics opens.
We will be responsible for providing human factors support across the project - effectively championing the user whether that is an operator, someone in the ticket office, a maintainer or a member of the public travelling on the system - including commuters, tourists, mobility impaired users.
The main focus of the consultancy's work will be on the design of the stations including the control rooms, the ticket office, staff accommodation, maintenance areas and importantly looking at passenger flow, wayfinding and information. CCD will also make recommendations for the gondolas and maintenance in other areas including the towers.
David Watts, CCD's Managing Director says, "We're delighted to be part of the winning consortium which will build this very prestigious project. The world's eyes will be on London in the coming months, and one our key roles is around the need for the system to work first time out of the box. There will be no running in period. Our job is to focus on the details and make sure that it works and works well."
CCD will pull the operational plans of Mace, Doppelmayr and TfL into a united understanding of the user needs and ensure the design work done by Aedas and URS/Scott Wilson meets those needs.
Work will begin this summer on the £50 million scheme which will provide a spectacular architectural addition to London and a much-needed river crossing in the area, cutting travel times to five minutes. It will also boost the once-in-a-lifetime economic regeneration of east London, forming an essential new addition to a newly created Enterprise Zone.
