FPSO Manual Handling Toolkit
HSE & Halliburton Brown & Root
Background
Following a number of ergonomics & manual handling audits of FPSOs CCD worked with the HSE to produce a Joint Industry Project report into the ergonomics issues associated with the design of FPSOs. A partiucular focus of the report was manual handling health & safety. The report identified higher accident and injury rates on FPSOs when compared with fixed offshore installations. The report concluded that manual handling systems were a potential weakpoint in FPSO design and handling practices did not generally take into consideration vessel motion.
FPSO designers did not in general have a good level of operational knowledge and experience which meant practical experience was often not fed back into the design of future installations. As a consequence, a recommendation of the study was the provision of support materials to designers to aid them in the design of FPSOs to minimise manual handling risk
project
We were commissioned by the HSE Offshore Division, in collaboration with Halliburton Brown and Root, to develop an FPSO Manual Handling Toolkit for dissemination of good practice information into the design community.
implementation
The toolkit was produced providing guidance on the design of specific areas of the installation such as plant packages, circulation routes, the accommodation block, container movements, machine spaces and the helideck. A tool was included for looking at manual handling in motion and a checklist was developed to support design reviews.
Outcomes
The FPSO Manual Handling Toolkit can be downloaded here
