CCD Human Factors

Multi-Touch Control System Design

2020 Imaging

background

2020 Imaging were developing a new command & control system that would employ novel techologies including multi-touch interfaces and 3D geospatial mapping combined with visual analytics.  Users would be supported by a detailed information database that sat behind the system providing contextual information such as known offenders in the area or crime statistics.  The system was to be targetted as a number of different applications including security and transport.

project

2020 commissioned CCD to provide human factors and control room operational expertise into the development project team.  The project would identify how human factors could be used to improve the usability of the system.  We were also providing information from our experience on how different types of control rooms worked and what kinds of user requirements might be present.

implementation

We conducted an initial scoping study that identified that the project needed to look at how the multi-touch equipment could be effectively packaged in the control room, how the interface would deliver the various visual and auditory information to the operator, and how it might be implemented in the variety of different applications it might be used in.

In the development phase we inputted some generic functional requirements into the design team and we then worked with the GUI team to design the interface to be usable.

outcomes

The system has now been taken to market and is available.  Visit the 2020 Imaging website for more information
