Usability & User Interfaces

The design of software user-interfaces is becoming more complex.  Technology moves on.  The different ways in which we interact and use software systems are growing, both at our desks and in public spaces.

However, these interactions take place for us to achieve a goal - to find out about something, to gain some knowledge, to control something, etc. This increasing complexity therefore has the potential to actually make achieving that goal quickly, without making mistakes and with the minimum of stress less and less likely

What do we do?

Our approach to designing and evaluating interfaces is to focus on the user and the tasks they are completing.  The interface has to deliver that first and foremost.  We spend time watching and understanding what the different users are trying to do and we use the insights gained to look at how the interface supports them.

A user and task based approach will produce better interactions.  The user will be more satisfied as they have completed their goal and may even have enjoyed the experience.

We apply our knowledge to complex command & control systems, to public systems such as information kiosks or ticket machine design or to consumer products.
